Truck Accidents Archives

Take a drive in the shoes -- or the seat -- of a trucker

Do you suffer a twinge of anxiety if you have a big rig alongside, behind or ahead of you as you navigate the busy California highways? That is quite natural, considering the size and weight difference between your vehicle and an 18-wheeler or a tanker truck. Collisions between passenger vehicles and commercial trucks invariably end in catastrophic injuries or death.

When distracted driving veers your way

One of the baseline recommendations for safe driving is to keep your eyes on the road. Unfortunately, not every driver heeds this warning. Perhaps you have been the victim of a car accident in which the driver was texting or otherwise not paying attention. You might even be the family member of a person who died because of an injury that resulted from an accident caused by distracted driving. It is sad to think that the damage and heartache caused by many of these accidents was preventable.

Exhaustion can kill: The dangers of drowsy driving

In addition to both distraction and impairment due to drugs or alcohol, drowsy driving is one of the leading causes of motor vehicle accidents. Being tired while behind the wheel may not seem like a dangerous behavior, but it is actually quite risky, and it can significantly increase your chances of being involved in an accident.

Agency proposes speed limiters for commercial trucks. Will they work?

Can limiting the speed of commercial trucks prevent accidents? Safety groups hope so. Most commercial trucks are equipped with a switch that limits how fast they can go. This technology has been in place for more than a decade, but lawmakers have been hesitant to require that this shift be activated, although this type of action has been supported by safety groups as well as the American Trucking Association (ATA).
